Everything you need to know about the Knorr-Bremse NEO Green changes

There’s a good chance if you’re in the commercial vehicle industry that you’ve heard of Knorr-Bremse. After all, they’re one of the world’s leading manufacturers of braking components and other vital systems found on many modern trucks, buses and trailers nowadays. However, what you might not know is they also make an OE-level diagnostics software, which is called ‘NEO Green’, specifically to help technicians identify faults and assist with the repair of Knorr-Bremse systems. This includes Brake Systems, Electronic Air Control, Driver Assistance, Electronic Levelling Control and much more.

As a result of Knorr-Bremse acquiring the majority stake in Cojali, who makes Jaltest, which happened on the 15th of June 2022, there are going to be a number of changes to NEO Green, including it being further integrated into the Jaltest software. In this article, we’ll be discussing some of these changes and how these affect you if you’re already a NEO Green user or if you’re a Jaltest user.

It was originally the case that NEO customers would have to purchase not only the NEO software but also a separate VCI (vehicle communication interface) to be able to use NEO. However, due to the merging of NEO and Jaltest, one of the main changes that is happening is that now you only have to have one VCI link –  the Jaltest link, which if you’re an existing Jaltest user, makes life so much easier not having to have multiple links for multiple pieces of software – you just need one. I’m sure we can all agree that anything to make life easier and simpler in the workshop is always a good thing!

Currently, existing Jaltest users can purchase NEO Green from Eclipse, which will work with any Jaltest Link that is V8.1 or newer. At the moment, this is a separate piece of software, which can be installed onto your Testpad Extreme Pro.

However, according to Cojali, after the second quarter of 2024, the NEO Green software will be fully integrated into the Jaltest software, which we can assume will mean several benefits for the user. One of which is the user interface which will hopefully be greatly enhanced and brought in line with the layout of the Jaltest software, making it more approachable for existing Jaltest users.

It will still require an additional annual subscription for NEO Green though, and this is available from Eclipse for just £615.00 ex VAT.

The subscription to NEO Green is compatible with the rest of the Jaltest Diagnostics modules including CV, AGV, OHW, MHE and Marine. The expiration date, on the other hand, will be independent of the other modules and will always be a year from the subscription date.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we will now be offering NEO Green from Knorr-Bremse, in addition to the multi-brand Jaltest Diagnostics software, which will not only grow our product offering but also will help to further empower our customers with greater diagnostics capabilities. We’re excited to see the continual development of NEO as it becomes more closely integrated with Jaltest.”

What’s the advantage of having NEO Green?

If you’ve not come across NEO before, the main advantage of this software is that all the information, such as wiring diagrams and repair hints, comes directly from the manufacturer, which is great because who knows more about Knorr-Bremse components and how to fix them than Knorr-Bremse themselves, making it more akin to a dealer tool. Another reason is that you can diagnose and work on a greater number of Knorr-Bremse systems, which aren’t normally available in other diagnostics software, particularly on trucks and buses. And lastly, you get access to more in-depth functionality such as ECU replacement.

Here are some of the main NEO Green Features:

– Direct access to original Knorr-Bremse system information and wiring diagrams.

– Safe ECU replacements with a check on the correct replacement part to use and the ability to downgrade/upgrade the ECU’s firmware if needed.

– Repair hints related to displayed DTCs.

– Take advantage of Knorr-Bremse’s know-how to perform the right manual tests at the right time.

– With V22, Neo Green software is compatible with the following Link VCI hardware from Cojali: Jaltest Link V8.1 or greater and Jaltest Link V9.

Supported Knorr-Bremse Systems:

+ EBS2, EBS5 and EBS5.x Brake Systems
+ EBS7 Brake System

+ EAC Electronic Air Control
+ iAPU Intelligent Air Processing Unit systems
+ FLC20 and FLR21 Driver Assistance Systems
